Dear Church,
I love music: listening to it, dancing to it, singing it, playing it, and writing it. I have done these things for over 30 years, and I still couldn’t tell you exactly what a song is. It’s not enough to tell you the different musical notes and the order in which they are arranged. It’s almost more about the space between the notes, the tension that creates, the potential resolution, and the way the sound of all that stuff impacts our spirit and physiology. A mystery indeed!
Like a song, the Church is meant to be a surprising unity of different parts that become something more together than any of the parts could have done on its own. Together, we are not just a group of individuals; we are the Body of Christ in the world! The space between us is filled with all the tension and resolution of different people bearing with one another in the same love. This unity is a powerful witness to Christ alive in us, and it is the primary message of the book of Ephesians.
Come join us next week as we begin our 6-part series on this important letter to the Church in Ephesus. May the LORD make us an example of genuine harmony on this campus and in this city!
One note among many,
Kyle Chase
