Greetings Church,

At our house we buy outdoor flowers and plants on Mother’s Day. It a tradition, and as far as traditions go, it’s not a bad one… I like it…

We go to a nursery, buy some plants that we hope will be beautiful, and we then go home and put them in the ground. It’s what we do…

A few years ago we founded “The Hummingbird Society of Saline." It sounds more important and larger than it is in actuality. So far, our home makes up the entire membership. We put out a feeder and in the last few years, as a part of our Mother’s Day plant tradition we buy some flowers that hummingbirds enjoy. I’m not ashamed to admit that during the summer, when we're sitting up on the stoop and we see a hummingbird enjoying something we planted, I get a decent sense of accomplishment. Hummingbirds are cool and seeing God feed them is rad.

There are times when I can reflect on God’s care of me. Just as He has things in His creation just for hummingbirds, He has things for me too… and you as well… God loves His creation and that includes us!

Mothers among us… thank you… I hope you feel appreciated and honored today… I pray your traditions will help that happen…
