Hello Church Fam,

I was reading Luke 9 this past week and read the story of a father bringing his child to Jesus who had been suffering attacks from a spirit for a long time (v.37-43). I felt really moved when the father says to Jesus, “It scarcely ever leaves him and is destroying him.” Now we don’t believe that followers of Jesus can be possessed by evil spirits because we are indwelled by the Holy Spirit, though we can still face spiritual attack. Saying that, does what that father said to Jesus resonate with you about something in your life or the life of a loved one? Something that scarily ever leaves and is destructive? A weakness, addiction, or self-destructive habit?

Reading this story moved me to pray and come to Jesus once again for healing in my life and healing in the lives of people I care for. The story ends with Jesus rebuking the impure spirit, healing the boy, and giving him back to his father. And everyone who was there was amazed at the greatness of God. Let’s be a church that keeps coming back to Jesus, that doesn’t depend on our own strength or knowledge or power which inevitably fail us, but on the power and love of our Savior. We can’t. God can.
