Dear Church,
Last week, I read 2 Corinthians 5:20 and was discussing it with some friends:
“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
In our conversation, we wondered about all that was entailed in the idea that we are “ambassadors” for Christ. Ambassadors are people who leave their home country with the vested authority of their leader in order to negotiate terms of peace in a foreign land or to otherwise influence the nation. They operate with diplomatic immunity and use their resources to tactfully make their appeal in a land that is not their home. Likewise, we as citizens of heaven are sent out to the “foreign land” that is this world, and we carry with us the full authority of King Jesus. We are free, but we do not use our freedom as a cover up for evil. Instead, we use the resources at our disposal to implore others to be reconciled to God. Our time, our money, our talent, and our tact are all tools that God can use as He makes His appeal through us.
How will you live today as an ambassador for Christ?
