Hi Church,
Happy November! “November” comes from the Latin word novem, which means “nine." You may be wondering why the eleventh month of the year comes from the Latin word for “nine." (See also OCTober and DECember). The original Roman calendar consisted of only 10 months, of which November was the 9th. That was later amended to 12 months with additional tweaks coming even as late as the 16th century when we started using a more accurate, Gregorian calendar. But the word still means “nine” to this day. Seeing this, I am reminded that even after a great change occurs, it is possible for a vestige of life before that change to remain. If you have decided to follow Jesus as Savior and Lord, then you are a new creation. The old has gone, and the new has come. Yet, if you are like me, you still notice remnants of your old life overstaying their welcome. Perhaps, rather than waiting till the new year, now is as good a time as any to invite Jesus to remove anything in our character that doesn’t look like Him. He will finish the work He has begun in us no matter how many months are in the year.
