Hello Church,
Today we take a pause to remember Dr. King. When I consider Dr. King’s work I often come back to something he preached on. Dr. King was to known to often preach on “loving our enemies.” I find this very challenging.
Dr. King had real enemies. The people he preached to had experienced significant injustice and had real enemies. The message he shared was one that didn’t look past this and at the same time, he boldly shared God’s call on us to love our enemies.
I’m sure this was not an easy message for him to preach. I’m sure this was not an easy message to hear. I have tried to put myself in the place of those who sat in the church pews of the places where Dr. King preached, and I’m not sure how I would have responded. I’m sure the response he got was quite diverse. In all this he continued to share the truth of God’s Word, even the parts that are extremely difficult to obey.
As you consider the work Dr. King pursued, may his approach to God’s call on whom to love, be among those things that you meditate on.
