If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
As we continue in this Lenten season to prepare the way of the Lord, I want to remind us of the importance that confession plays in that preparation. Jesus' death and resurrection not only granted us forgiveness for our sins, but it also gives power to overcome our besetting sins. As Christians, we confess our sins to bring them into the light of God’s grace. It is in that light that we find His power to think and act differently. In his book The Celebration of Discipline, Richard Foster said about confession, “In this experience of opening ourselves to the 'gaze of God' we must be prepared to deal with definite sins. A generalized confession may save us from humiliation and shame, but it will not ignite inner healing.” In this season of preparation lets courageously go before God and get the specific help and strength we need. He is faithful and just!
